For the first play in our Centenary Year we present something different! “The Cat & The Canary”, is the best known work by the American dramatist John Willard. This Black Comedy in the “old dark house” genre of films popular from the 1930s through the 1950s, was first performed on Broadway in 1922 and it’s popularity led to 6 film adaptations – the most notable of which was the 1939 Universal Films production starring Bob Hope & Paulette Goddard.
A warning echoes: “For God’s sake, stay in your rooms and lock the doors!” When a group of prospective heirs gathers in a grim, antiquated mansion to discover who will inherit a vast fortune, they soon realize a flesh‑rending maniac is on the loose, turning the inheritance hunt into a deadly nightmare!
